Planting Instructions
Choose the Right Spot Peonies love full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Choose a spot with at least 6 hours of sunlight daily. Ensure good air circulation to prevent disease.
Soil Preparation Peonies thrive in well-draining, fertile soil. Add organic matter (like compost) to enrich your soil if needed.
Planting Depth & Spacing Dig a hole about 12 inches deep. Place the root so the “eyes” (pink or white growth tips) are 1–2 inches below the soil and pointing up. Plant roots about 3 feet apart to allow room for growth.
Watering Water thoroughly after planting. Keep soil moist, not soaked. Water regularly during dry periods.
Patience & Care Peonies can take 1-2 years to fully establish and bloom, but the wait is worth it! Fertilize lightly each spring with a balanced fertilizer.Cut down all the foliage in the fall and discard.
important to note
Peony plants do best in hardiness zones 3 to 8. They need a significant period of cold winter temperatures (at least 60 days of chilling) to set buds and bloom abundantly.
Plant peony roots as soon as they arrive; if you must wait, keep them cool and dark. Refrigerate (the veggie drawer of your refreigerator) for longer delays and mist lightly to prevent drying out.
